Ed Sheeran jolted musicdom at the start of the year with a creative announcement of his new album and songs.

The “Thinking Out Loud” hitmaker broke the news on his newly restored Twitter and Instagram accounts with two short clips inking of his new music releases. In the first clip, Sheeran is seen waving to his fans and raising a note that says, “New music coming Friday.”

The second clip shows a sky-blue background with a picture that appears to be a division symbol, hinting that his newest album will be named “Divide”. His two other albums were coined “+” (Plus) and “x”(Multiply), smudged with the color orange and green, respectively. It was escorted with the caption, “6th January 5 am GMT/ Midnight ET”.

Although he didn’t specify if he would be dropping one track or multiple tracks in an album, Sheeran’s die-hard fans applauded him for his creative way of announcing his comeback.

In December 2015, the British crooner, 25, took a yearlong leave from the public eye because he was “seeing the world through a screen and not his own eyes.” He made headlines after he serenaded Melody Driscoll, a terminally ill 9-year-old British fan. Also, he focused on recording his third studio album and composed “X-Factor UK” champion Matt Terry’s debut solo “When Christmas Comes Around.”

Last month, Sheeran resurfaced online when he posted a vague blue picture, signaling his upcoming new music.

His previous album, “x,” came out in 2014 and contained global hits such as “Thinking Out Loud” and “Photograph.”
