ndonesian Film Board (Badan Perfilman Indonesia/BPI) announced their recent collaboration with online entertainment platform Viddsee to promote short films to an international audience.

Vice chair of BPI, Dewi Umaya, who signed an MoU with the platform on Thursday, wrote in a statement to Antara News that they appreciate Viddsee’s consistency in supporting the distribution of Indonesian short films to national and international audiences.

Viddsee was established by a group of young filmmakers, who were struggling to expose their films to a larger audience. They hoped to empower fellow filmmakers with Viddsee’s platform, programming and network.

Their platform has enabled a global audience to easily discover, watch and share short films anywhere on their desktop and mobile devices. Viddsee also launched Juree Awards, a competition involving a panel of judges who pick the films from the brightest young talents in filmmaking.

Viddsee Jure Awards Indonesia 2018 was launched the same day as the MoU signing.

This award aims at bridging the gap between digital filmmaking and distribution by working closely with local film communities. The three country hosts for Viddsee Juree in 2018 are Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore.

“The rich and diverse stories from Indonesia’s creator community are highly appreciated on our platform and we look forward to grow together with the talented storytellers, and eventually create content together, too,” said Ho Jia Jian, CEO of Viddsee.

The MoU with BPI will result in further recognition of Viddsee through the board’s domestic and international network.

Viddsee has a growing library of Indonesian films across all genres, according to a statement released by BPI. Indonesian titles such as Grave Torture by Joko Anwar, Our School Our Lives by Steve Pillar Setiabudi, Red Umbrella by Andri Cung and Julian Day by Gianni Fajri are well-loved by both local and international viewers.

Two winners will be chosen by Viddsee Juree Awards Indonesia 2018. Production grants worth Rp 40 million (US$ 2,910) will be given to the gold winner, while Rp 20 million will be given to the silver winner.

“With our joint-efforts through this memorandum, opportunities for local filmmakers will increase, especially for the community who are our BPI stakeholders,” said Dewi Umaya. (mut)
