cclaimed director Steven Spielberg has created movies and characters loved by generations of film lovers, including the iconic archaeology professor/adventurer Indiana Jones, popularly portrayed by Harrison Ford.

Though Ford has turned the character into a fictional icon, in a recent interview Spielberg said that he would not mind if the character was to someday be played by a woman.

He has even decided on a name for her.

“We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan,” Spielberg said. “And there is nothing wrong with that.”

Ford has so far starred in four Indiana Jones films and is scheduled to reprise the role once again in 2020. However, the fifth installment is said to be the last time he would be donning Jones’s iconic brown fedora.

“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure,” Spielberg said regarding the matter. “But [the saga] will certainly continue after that.”

CNET suggested that the actress playing Indiana Joan would not suffer the same fate as Claire Foy, who commands the lead role of Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown, yet reportedly earns a smaller paycheck than Matt Smith (who portrays Prince Phillip).

While the allegation has never been confirmed, it fueled a building online firestorm of controversy over the wage gap between men and women, both in entertainment and other industries.

Tackling the issue head-on, Spielberg used his most recent movie Ready Player One as an example that "everybody was equally paid."

Another recent Spielberg hit, 2017’s The Post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, reportedly awarded both actors the same paycheck. (ely/kes)
