T

he first of the new spots from the Star Wars character backstory spin-off shows Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) playing a game of Sabacc with Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), while the second has Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) playing Holochess with Chewbacca.

Notorious smuggler Calrissian is gambling with a group of aliens in an underground den. “No liars in this game, just players,” he remarks.

As we catch a glimpse of Qi’Ra, played by Emilia Clarke, walking past, Han Solo takes a seat at the table.

Calrissian proceeds to call Solo “Hen” instead of “Han” and says, “Everything you’ve heard about me is true.”

The game of Sabacc that follows might be the one that won Solo the Millennium Falcon.

The second clip shows Chewbacca and Solo’s mentor Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) playing Holochess with holographic alien chess pieces – and Chewbacca’s losing.

When the frustrated Wookie tries to knock all the pieces off the board, Beckett points out that they’re holograms, and offers some gaming advice.

“Look, all you gotta do is think a few moves ahead, anticipate your opponent. There’s a lesson to be learned here,” he tells Chewbacca.

Solo: A Star Wars Story explores the period between the prequel trilogy and A New Hope.

The film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.
