“We wanted to take this moment to look back at all Greenpeace has achieved in the region across the last 20 years and use the pioneering spirit of our founders to help us raise awareness of the urgent environmental issues we still face. Intan has taken that idea and turned it into fashion to show us that there are many creative ways to care about the environment.”

Titled Kembali (back), the collection uses 100 percent recycled materials from clothing waste, banners and placards, as well as natural ingredients such as pandanus leaves, secang bark, coconut husks, mangosteen rind and turmeric.

“This collection is inspired by the spices in my kitchen I got from local spice vendors that bring me closer to my family and friends every time I use them,” said Intan, who has used the upcycling technique for her products since 2004.

“I decided to use the same spices I use for cooking as natural coloring for this collection to represent my view that change can start from our homes and community.”

The Kembali collection will go on sale in a special five-day auction marathon from Oct. 2 to 6. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to Greenpeace’s next projects. (gis/wng)
