Bina Darma to send students to Malaysia

Bina Darma University (UBD) in Palembang, South Sumatra, will send students in May 10 to study at the Selangor University of Industry (Unisel) in Malaysia as part of a cooperation between the two universities.

Unisel will also send its students to study at the UBD campus in Palembang.

UBD rector Bochari Rahman said that the student exchange is part of the "UBD Go International" program, and is aimed at promoting the image of UBD.

"Through the Go International program, the UBD graduates should have a competitive advantage," he said during a graduation ceremony at the campus on March 15.

Bochari said that the UBD prepared all of its students with academic and professional prowess so that they could play a pivotal role in improving the living standards in Indonesia.

The rector emphasized that the 10 students were picked through a rigorous selection process.

This student exchange is not a new program; the UBD has previously worked with University of North Malaysia (UUM) and Sultan Idria University (USI).

Bochari said that high competition in the labor market among graduates of universities -- whether private or state, overseas or national -- should be anticipated with the improvement of skills and knowledge among graduates.

For this reason, Bochari said that his university works with several companies including state electricity company PLN, telecommunication company PT Indosat, PT Transportasi and PT Gas Indonesia to create internship opportunities.

Meanwhile, employees with those companies also have an opportunity to continue their study at UBD, he said.
