JAKARTA: State train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will launch a special train for elderly passengers and those with special needs in September
AKARTA: State train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will launch a special train for elderly passengers and those with special needs in September.
The company will provide the service in the lead up of the annual exodus of people during the festive season of Idul Fitri, which this year falls on Sept. 10-11.
The service is aimed at providing a service for old people, pregnant women, breast-feeding mothers and the handicapped traveling to their hometowns during the holidays.
“The position [of the train] will be as far forward on the platform as possible so that passengers can easily access the train,” KAI spokesperson Mateta Rizalulhaq said on Thursday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The train is of the same standard as those servicing the Senen and Tanah Abang stations in Central Jakarta.
The train will serve routes from Jakarta to Malang in East Java and can carry as many as 109 people. — JP
