ANGERANG: The Justice and Human Rights Ministry, the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry and the Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry have joined forces to provide training for inmates at the Tangerang Juvenile Detention Center.
Under the agreement, the detention center can now sell handicrafts produced by inmates with assistance from the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry and the Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry.
“We hope that the inmates will no longer have problems selling or marketing their work,” Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said after a ceremony to launch the program.
During the ceremony, Patrialis handed out awards to wardens and prison guards for outstanding performance. Patrialis also gave out awards for the best performing prisons in the country.
Liberti Sitinjak, warden of the Abepura Penitentiary, won an award for outstanding performance and loyalty and prison guards Masngud from the Tangerang Penitentiary and Reza Maulana from the Serang Penitentiary received recognition for their roles in foiling drug smuggling at their prisons.
Muhamad Soleh, a prison guard at the Central Jakarta Penitentirary, and Nova Aprilia, a staffer at the Bangka Belitung Justice and Human Rights Office, also received recognition for bringing home 13 gold medals at a sporting event in Singapore.
Awards were also given to the Sukamiskin Penientiary in Bandung, the Bandar Lampung and Malang Detention Centers and the Pekan Baru state warehouse for confiscated goods. — JP
