akarta: The boy convicted of stealing a policeman’s flip-flops, AAL, stammered as he delivered his testimony at the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA), on Wednesday.

“I am sure that it was not his [the policeman’s] sandals, they were already worn-out,” the boy told a press conference at the commission’s office in East Jakarta, on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

The Palu District Court found the 15-year-old boy guilty of stealing a cop’s worn-out flip-flops, but decided not to sentence him to prison and released instead to his parents.

The case gained attention when two police officers, First Brig. Simson Jones Sipayung and First Brig. Ahmad Rusdi Harahap, arrested AAL and beat him while in custody.

The boy’s family filed a report to the police internal affairs division (Propam) over the abuses. In revenge, the two officers then reported the boy for theft.
