AKARTA: An explosion at a tofu factory in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, has claimed the life of one factory worker and injured two others.
The police said that the victim, identified as Arifin, 26, died after sustaining severe burns all over his body. His left arm was also blown off in the explosion.
Two of his colleagues, identified as Waryo and Anhar, are being treated at Bunda Hospital in Depok, West Java.
According to Jagakarsa Police precinct chief Comr. Muhammad Arsalam, it was likely that the explosion was caused by human error, as the factory workers had forgotten to open the stove’s steam safety valve.
He said that the factory, which distributed its products at Kramat Jati market in East Jakarta, had begun operating only three months ago.
“The total losses have not been calculated, but it is estimated to reach millions of rupiah,” Arsalam said.
