police official said police were still searching for fourmembers of an international drug cartel following the death of two drugdealers in Medan, NorthSumatra.

These cartel members are identified as FR, Encek, WNR and Mursal.

'These people were transporting narcotics from Malaysia to Medan. They were then distributing the narcotics from Medan to various cities throughout the country,' National Police narcotics division chief Brig. Gen. Arman Depari said on Wednesday.

He said the police had managed to track down the whereabouts of FR, Encek and WNR in Tanjung Balai, Medan while Mursal was last detected in Malaysia.

He said the whereabouts of the four cartel members was the result of earlier arrests made by the police in separate locations in Medan. The police had earlier attempted to arrest Ramadhan P Kesuma and Selly Satria Aprianto, local drug dealers who became the cartel's means of distributing narcotics in the province. Ramadhan and Selly resisted arrest, which resulted in the two being injured in a firefight with police. They both died en route to hospital.

The police confiscated 2.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, and 10,000 ecstasy pills from Ramadhan's room at the Grand Aston hotel, while from Selly's house the police confiscated 100 grams of shabu-shabu. (dic)
