aritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) patrol boats arrested four Vietnamese vessels and 37 people allegedly engaged in illegal fishing in Natuna waters, it was revealed on Thursday.

It was alleged that three vessels were illegally fishing in the waters by using trawls, which are prohibited under Law No. 31/2004 on fisheries.

Head of the ministry's Maritime and Fisheries Resources Monitoring (PSDKP) Batam working unit, Akhmadon, said on Thursday that Hiu Macan 001 patrol boat impounded KM BD 95594 TS, KM BV 95227 TS and KM BV 95467 on Tuesday.

He also said that Hiu Macan 004 impounded KM Citra Mandiri, which was found illegally fishing in Natuna waters for diving into the waters. After a thorough examination, it was discovered that the vessel's name had been changed to an Indonesian name to deceive sea patrollers.

'The Vietnamese-flagged KM Citra Mandiri's crew stole certain types of fish by diving into the waters using air compressors,' said Akhmadon.
