T

he military court in Palembang, South Sumatra, heard on Friday that a battalion commander was unable to stop his men from committing the rally-turned-arson incident at the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) police precinct, South Sumatra, on March 7.

Sgt. Maj. Fatoni ' speaking as a witness for two suspects, First Corp. Eryadi and First Pvt. Febrian Teban' was referring to 2nd Regional Military Command (Kodam II) Sriwijaya 15/56 Field Artillery Battalion (Yon Armed) commander, Maj. Ifien Anindra.

Fatoni, a member of the military command's Yon Armed 15/56, said that some of the 19 suspects had planned to stage a rally at the OKU police station to convey several demands to OKU police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Aziz Saputra, including the dismissal of traffic policeman Brig. Wijaya who allegedly shot First Pvt. Heru Oktavianus over a traffic violation.

Fatoni said that Maj. Ifien had asked his men to think their plan over carefully. Unfortunately shortly after arriving at the OKU police station, he and Maj. Ifien saw that the soldiers had attacked the building.

Other testimonies will be heard at the next session, slated for Monday. (nai/ebf)
