he panel of Magelang District Court judges has sentenceddeputy mayor Joko Prasetyo into one month and 15 days in prison for domestic violence. The ruling was lighter than the two-month term sought by prosecutors.
'Joko has been a bad role model as public official. However he admits and regrets the wrongdoing,' presiding judge Yulman said on Tuesday.
Commenting on the ruling, Joko said he needed to consult with his lawyers.
Joko was reported to the police by his wife Siti Zubaedah for domestic violence in conflict over rumors that Joko had married another woman without his wife's consent.
Zubaedah's lawyer Fatkhurozi was dismayed the ruling, saying that the judges had ignored the evidence and facts as presented during the trial. Joko's proven violence was not only very serious indeed, but his deeds put his family in jeopardy and the panel should have deliveeed the ruling requested by prosecutors or even higher.
'This ruling speaks to me in plain language that there is no justice for the needy, especially when standing face to face with high officials,' he said.
