anten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah gas told employers to register all workerswith state-owned insurance company PT Jamsostek because social securitybenefits not only their workers but also employers.

'Employers will no longer pay for occupational accidents, or when workers are sick, die or retire because all risks are covered by Jamsostek in payroll,' she said on a visit to the Jamsostek branch office here on Thursday.

The governor was shocked to learn that only 800,000 out of 2.6 million workers in more than 11,000 local companies were registered with Jamsostek.

She vowed to campaign for social security programs and deploy the provincial manpower office to check on companies failing to register workers in mandatory programs.

Jamsostek's presiding director Elvyn G. Masassya said that he would increase compensation and other benefits to encourage employers to protect their workers in the programs.

He cited benefits including low-interest mortgages, affordable housing, cheap basic commodities for low-income workers and scholarships for their children.
