Bantul to organize children's art festival

he Bantul Tourism and Culture agency is planning to organizea children's art festival that will take place on June 16 in Krebethamlet, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The festival is aimed at promoting the hamlet as atourist spot as well as boosting youth creativity.

'We want to introduce Krebet hamlet as the center of wooden batik crafts for the welfare of craftsman as
well,' said Bantul Tourism and Culture agency head Bambang Guritno on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The festival will be jointly organized by the Bantul Tourism and Culture agency, Gadjah Mada University and the Krebet Hamlet Tourism Awareness Group.

The festival's chairman, Markus Purnomo, said the festival, entitled 'Art is a child's best friend' would feature competitions, wooden batik crafting competitions and a traditional Javanese singing competition for vocal groups.

'Registration is open until June 9 at the Bantul Tourism Agency office. The registration fee is Rp 15,000 for the batik crafting competition and Rp 50,000 per group for the singing competition,' he said. (nai/dic)
