family of three have been murdered in an alleged robbery at their house in Suka Mulia Hilir village, Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra, early on Sunday.

Patar Ginting, 50, his wife Handayani, 45, and 7-year-old daughter Aisyah Ginting died due to wounds to their necks that were allegedly committed by a group of robbers.

Police said the bodies of the victims had been taken to Adam Malik Hospital in Medan for autopsies.

Deli Serdang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Dicky Patrianegara said the killing of family took place at around 3 a.m. local time on Sunday. He said the murder was carried out by more than one person as the victims were found dead in separate places inside the house.

Dicky said that Patar, found slumped over a chair at the front of the house, was probably the first victim of the assailants, with Handayani being killed in front of the bathroom and the daughter Aisyah being killed in her bedroom.

'They were killed after having their throats cut,' Dicky told journalists at the crime scene on Sunday.

Robbery is being considered as a possible motive in the killing as the police found that several precious objects belonging to the family, including money, had disappeared.

'We've deployed our units to catch the perpetrators,' Dicky said. (asw/ebf)
