T

he South Jakarta Husbandry and Fishery Office says it will continue its crackdown on rabies, despite the low incidence of the disease in the municipality.

The office's husbandry chief, Yuli Absari, said on Monday that 325 local cats and dogs had been vaccinated this year.

"We prioritize house pets in residential areas because their interaction with humans are higher than stray animals," Yuli said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Stray cats and dogs would also be vaccinated she said.

"The stray animals will be impounded at the Animal Conservation Center in Ragunan [South Jakarta], where they will be vaccinated and examined to check whether they have already been infected with the virus," Yuli said.

According to the office, cats, dogs and monkeys are the primary vectors of the disease.
