Thousand Islands Deputy Regent Djunaidi has been appointed acting regent to replace Achmad Ludfi, who is retiring.

Djunaidi appointment as the head of the regency, which falls under Jakarta administratively, was confirmed at a ceremony at City Hall on Monday.

"Ludfi officially retired in April, however, it was effective on May 1," Jakarta Employment Agency (BKD) head I Made Karmayoga told reporters.

According to Karmayoga, Governor Joko "jokowi" Widodo did not extend Ludfi's appointment as part of a policy of not postponing retirements.

Jokowi had not yet determined a permanent successor to Achmad, he added.

Karmayoga said that the administration would permanently appoint acting South Jakarta mayor Syamsudin Noor to lead the municipality at a ceremony on Wednesday at the Setu Babakan Betawi Cultural Village in South Jakarta.

Setu Babakan was chosen as a venue for the event due to its many Betawi, or indigenous Jakartan, residents, he said.
