Jakarta as a capital city with a large population is now building its mass rapid transit (MRT) system and a monorail will follow. Today there are already Transjakarta buses, city buses and various minivans, but Transjakarta still has many problems to solve.

Your comments:

The city of Mumbai, India, had trams until about the 1970s but they were removed and replaced by buses. So the Jakarta administration could benefit by discussing the pros and cons of trams with the Mumbai administration.

The city of Kolkata, also in India, had tramcars for a much longer time. I don't recall whether they still have them. The administration there could also give the Jakarta administration some good pointers on this issue.
