he Transjakarta Management Authority (BLU) will give one day of free rides on all 12 of its corridors to mark the city's 486th anniversary, according to a top official.
"The Transjakarta management is still deciding the exact date, whether it will be a Saturday or Sunday," BLU chief Muhammad Akbar told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Akbar said that bus operators would be told to operate more buses on the day to meet expected high demand. "We hope that after the free-ride service, more Jakartans will opt to ride public transportation."
Transjakarta carries up to 320,000 passengers on a regular day, Akbar said. "We hope that on the special day, all buses will be operational and that we are able to handle around 400,000 commuters."
