The lesson we can learn from Alex Ferguson incredible success at Manchester United is that money has changed soccer forever.

Early in his career at Manchester United in the late 1980s, Ferguson was nearly sacked for a string of bad results, if this would have happened who knows what would have happened at Manchester United.

In the same week Roberto Mancini was sacked by Manchester City with second place in the Premiership not deemed acceptable by Sheikh Mansour.

The lesson from a soccer fan is that money now demands instant success and if they are not delivered you bring in someone else; I wonder if Giggs, Beckham, Scholes would have got the opportunity to play now if such a philosophy dominated soccer back in the 1980s.

I have been a Manchester City fan for 35 years.

Sir Alex Ferguson knows his place.

After leading Manchester United for 26 years and collecting 38 trophies for the team he called it a day; and gave another the chance to do better in his place.

His big heart is giving a younger man the chance to do better while he will voluntarily give advice to the new executive about what is best for the team based on his experiences in the past.

Sir Alex Ferguson is indeed a gentleman, his team will miss him. Bravo!

Sir Alex Ferguson has earned global respect by his tenacity, hard work and sincerity.

The world would be a better place if all of us imbibed these qualities. I take my hat off to a living legend.
