For Waldjinah, 67, this will be her first performance after a prolonged absence due to a stroke and intestine infection.

She spent the last three months preparing for the performance, with medicine and physical condition being her top priority, she said, because she is scheduled to perform every night at the festival for 12 consecutive days.

Waldjinah with be accompanied by the Keroncong Bintang orchestra, which comprises three singers and six musicians. The other singers are Nuning Darmono, also of Surakarta, and Dina Putri, Waldjinah's granddaughter.

"I have performing abroad before but the Netherlands, and Japan, always makes me enthusiastic because Indonesian culture is really appreciated there, especially keroncong," Waldjinah said.

Waldjinah's performance at the Tong Tong Fair will be her third performance in the country. She said she and her group would sing a total of 20 songs, which include requests from the former Dutch queen.

Among her planned repertoire are Walang Kekek, Jangkrik Genggong, Tanjung Perak, Ayo Ngguyu (Let's Laugh) and Bunga Anggrek (The Orchid). The songs will be performed in Javanese, Indonesian and in the case of Bunga Anggrek, Dutch.
