President Susilo BambangYudhoyono has officially appointed Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head Chatib Basri as Finance Minister after he underwent a fit-and-proper test at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Monday, Antara news agency reported.
Chatib was dubbed by many analysts as the strongest candidate to take the position, replacing Agus Martowardojo who has been selected as Bank Indonesia (BI) governor for 2013-2018.
Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa is currently acting finance minister.
In an earlier statement, Hatta said the new minister would be a professional and not from a political party.
