The case files for the Army commandos implicated in the Cebongan prison raid will soon be given to the Yogyakarta Military Prosecutor, clearing the way for preparations for courts martial to begin.

The chief spokesman of the IV/Diponegoro Military Command, Col. Widodo Raharjo, discussed the developments with reporters on Tuesday.

'The dossiers will be submitted together with the evidence and the suspects,' Widodo said at Military Police Detachment (Denpom) IV headquarters in Semarang, West Java.

Three field-grade officers, Denpom IV/5 Semarang chief Lt. Col. Tri Wahyuningsih, Denpom IV Col. Sudirman and Denpom IV investigation section chief Maj. Roby Zulkarnain, were at the briefing.

Twelve soldiers from the Army's Special Forces Command (Kopassus) ' up from an initial 11 n ' have been named suspect in an attack on the prison and the murder of four detainees held there on March 26.

The victims had been detained by the Yogyakarta Police for their role in the murder of a former Kopassus commando member at Hugo's Cafe in Yogyakarta on March 19.

Evidence submitted to military prosecutors included three AK-47 assault rifles, two AK-47 replica rifles, a pistol, two Toyota Avanza minibuses and a plastic bag containing charred CCTV recordings.

The 12th suspect was identified as First Sgt. S. The other suspects were previously identified as First Cpl. K, second sergeants US, SS, and IS; first sergeants S, AR, MRPB and HS; and sergeants major R and MZ.

Investigators have questioned 60 people including the 12 suspects, six Kopassus 'operatives', 31 inmates and 11 guards at Sleman Penitentiary in Cebongan, Yogyakarta, according to the spokesman.

The investigators comprised three officers from Military Police headquarters (Puspom) and 35 from Denpom IV branches in Semarang, Yogyakarta and Surakarta.

Widodo said that investigators believed that the assault and murder of the civilians was driven by Kopassus 'esprit de corps'. 'It was a spontaneous act.'

Military prosecutors will study and process the dossiers before being submitted to the Yogyakarta Military Court.

Widodo said the trial would be open to the public.
