atam Immigration Office's officers arrested 11 Indian citizens who had overstayed their visas in a raid at Hotel Bali, Batam, Riau Islands, on Tuesday.
Acting on intelligence, six immigration officers arrested the Indian nationals at 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday. They did not resist arrest. Most of the foreigners entered Batam on March 22 and have exceeded the maximum stay of 30 days.They were taken to the Batam Immigration Office for a further investigation.
Vincent, one of the people arrested, told The Jakarta Post that he did not know why he and his friends were arrested.
'We just live here. We don't live here to work or to commit criminal activities. We have been staying here for more than one month,' said Vincent, whom his friends referred to as 'boss'.
Head of Batam Immigration Office, Yudi Kurniadi, said the office was still investigating the purposes of their stay in Batam.
'We are still examining the case, and they are still being interrogated,' said Yudi. (fan/ebf)
