A media activist is upset by Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam's remarks about Franz Magnis Suseno.

Franz criticised the Appeal of Conscience Foundation's plan to give an award to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for upholding religious freedom.

'Dipo Alam has seriously misunderstood the reverend's letter as an insult. Instead, it's a bold act to encourage all parties to question whether the President truly deserves the award,' said Imam Shofwan,  who organized an online petition against the award, in a release sent to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Imam also disparaged Dipo's latest tweet telling all Muslims to stand united and never allow a non-Muslim to criticize a Muslim leader.

'As a Muslim myself, I fully regret Dipo's statement that might suggest interreligious conflict. He should not come out with that kind statement,' he said.(nai/dic)
