he police confiscated 24,000 counterfeit US$100 bills from a hotel on Jl. Otista Raya, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.
A cleaner at the hotel, Suherman, said he was tidying the room after the guests checked out and found the money in a plastic bag under the bed.
CCTV footage showed a couple entering the room and leaving at 6 a.m. on Wednesday with luggage. According to the hotel's management, the guests were Omanis.
Jatinegara Police detectives chief First Insp. Ambarita said the police had yet to determine the owner of the counterfeit money.
'In our interview with the hotel, we discovered that the hotel only fully cleans the rooms once a week. There is a possibility that the money was in the room before the guests captured on the CCTV footage checked in,' he was quoted as saying by beritajakarta.com.
He explained, however, that the counterfeit money appeared to have been freshly printed.
