Prosecutors have indicted reputed criminal kingpin Hercules Rosario Marshal on multiple charges and is therefore likely to face a maximum nine-year prison sentence if proven guilty.

'Hercules has to have violated beyond doubt the Criminal Code by committing various crimes like violence, extortion, incitement, resisting arrest and furthermore provoking his men to fight the police,'
prosecutor Fajar Setiawan told the West Jakarta District Court on Thursday, as reported by antara news portal.

He said Hercules had also picked a fight with the police personnel while they were conducting briefing in Srengseng, West Jakarta.

"The defendant, Hercules, with rage took out his artificial right eye, slammed it to the ground while yelling at police officers that he was once shot in the eye. The defendant also hit the police car until it was dented," Fajar said.

Commenting on the trial, Hercules said outside the court that he would leave his fate in the hands of the court.

Presiding judge Kemal Tampubolon adjourned the hearing until next week for the purpose of hearing the  lawyers' response to the indictment.

Hercules was arrested, along with 50 of his men, following reports from local residents at Srengseng that had become his subjects of extortion. (hdt/nai)
