A

s many as 80 people have been summoned as witnesses in connection with Adj. First. Insp. Labora Sitorus' suspicious accumulative bank transactions case, Papua Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said.

He said that 15 of the 80 witnesses were police officers.

'We have questioned former Raja Ampat Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Taufik Irfan and several other district police chiefs in relation to this case,' Tito said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

However, he added, none of the summoned witnesses have been named as suspects in this case.

The case originated from a Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) report that spotted accumulative bank account transactions between 2007-2012 amounting to Rp 1.5 trillion (U$ 102 million) in Labora's bank account.

According to PPATK, the transactions did not fit Labora's profile as a police officer. The Papua police then followed up the finding and named Labora a suspect with multiple charges.(hrl/dic)
