he hasty appointment by parliament of a legislator and media mogul to head Bulgaria's state security service has provoked outrage, prompting the country's president to demand an immediate revision of the decision.
Delyan Peevski was endorsed Friday by legislators from the ruling left-leaning bloc in a 116-87 vote, with one abstention. Peevski was the only one nominated for the post and the vote was not preceded by a usual debate.
President Rosen Plevneliev urged parliament to "immediately" retract its decision, which would have "long-term negative consequences on Bulgaria."
Civil groups called through social media for a protest in front of government headquarters.
