A

tidal flood hit North Jakarta beach on Fridayinundating streets, shopping malls and housing compounds and disturbing thetraffic flow along streets in the area.

The flood, with a water level of 50 centimeters, reached the Mangga Dua World Trade Center and caused heavy traffic jams along Jl. Martadinata and Jl. Gunung Sahari. Transjakarta buses serving Corridor V connecting  Kampung Melayu-Ancol were affected.

'Transjakarta buses serving Corridor V can only reach Jembatan Merah shelter (two stops before the end of the route at Ancol), as the next shelter at Gunung Sahari is inundated by the floods,' said the chairman of the Transjakarta Management Authority (BLU) Muhammad Akbar, as quoted by kompas.com.

Akbar said he did not know how long the floods would last.

'We can only monitor the water level along the route. If the water recedes and Transjakarta buses can pass, we will continue our operation,' he said.

Previously, the sea level had risen at Pademangan, North Jakarta and pumps at East Ancol water gate had broken so they could not drain the water.

The 50-centimeter tidal flood caused traffic congestion for 5 kilometers in main streets in the area.
