n line with the growing strategic importance of Indonesia, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans andInternational Environmental and Scientific Affairs Kerri-Ann Jones will arrivein Jakarta on Sunday to discuss mutual cooperation in climate change andenvironmental issues with her Indonesian counterparts, the US State Departmentsaid.
During her three-day stay, Jones will attend the fourth annual Climate and Environment Working Group Meeting and meet several senior Indonesian officials.
'Dr. Jones will also meet with government officials to discuss science and technology, and how civil society and U.S. companies can support the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,' the US State Department said in a press release on Friday (Saturday in Jakarta) in Washington.
The working group meeting, the release said, was organized as part of the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership agreement.
'Under the Partnership, the United States and Indonesia cooperate on a wide range of activities to advance low carbon growth and address major threats to the world's environment,' it said.
Jones, who received a PhD degree from the Yale University's department of molecular biophysics and biochemistry in 1985, has a long experience in Asia, especially in assisting Asian countries in the field of science and technology.
