State-owned train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has ordered 100 new trains from the United States and Germany.

All of the trains are expected to arrive in 2014.

KAI Facility Director Rono Pradipto said as quoted by kontan.co.id that the trains were worth around Rp 24 billion (US$2.4 million) in total.

Rono said that once the trains arrived, KAI would conduct a series of tests on them for their functionality, quality and dynamics.
