ALU: Labuan village head Ismail Pakaya and the village's head of general affairs, Ramang, escaped death after being shot by unidentified people in Kapompa village, Poso Kota Utara district, Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Monday.

Ismail was riding his motorcycle and Ramang was in the passenger's seat when the incident happened at around 10 a.m.

'The shot came from the mountainous area on our left side,' said Ismail, adding that he immediately headed to the Poso Police to file a report.

Poso Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Susnadi said he had deployed a team to conduct a sweep in the reported area. 'We are still hunting the alleged shooters,' he said.

It is suspected that Ismail was the main target of the shooting as he reportedly often assists the police in providing information on terror suspects.

Meanwhile, in a separate area, residents found a suspicious package wrapped in plastic in Kayamanya subdistrict. The police examined the object and found it contained light bulbs.
