AKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Monday that it would soon detain two graft suspects, namely former youth and sports minister Andi Mallarangeng and former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbanigrum.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the two individuals would soon be following in the footsteps of Deddy Kusdinar, the first suspect in the Hambalang graft case to be locked up by the antigraft agency.

'It is definite that the two suspects will be detained,' Johan said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Johan also said that the KPK would act independently in detaining the two main suspects in the Hambalang case. 'We will detain them regardless of the amount of state losses in the case,' Johan said.

Earlier, KPK chairman Abraham Samada said that the agency could only detain Andi after obtaining information from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) on how much the state lost as a result of the graft case.

Last week, the KPK detained Deddy one year after the investigation on the case began.
