T

he Jakarta Police are still looking for three men allegedly involved in the attack and murder of a member of the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR), during an altercation between the FBR and the Pemuda Pancasila (PP) youth organization.

'It is alleged two of the suspects beat the victim before the other sliced his head with a machete,' city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

Ramlan, 43, died at the scene on Jl. Barito 2, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Sunday.

The police arrested Anthonio Paskal Vallenzy, who is accused of purposely hitting Ramlan with his motorcycle before all four men collectively attacked the victim.

Officers confiscated three machetes from Anthonio during his arrest.

'[Anthonio] dropped one suspect off on Jl. Radio Dalam, South Jakarta, therefore, assisting his escape,' Rikwanto said.

The clash between the FBR and the PP started after 18 FBR members pulled down a number of PP banners hung in areas around Jl. Barito Raya and Jl. Barito 2, both in South Jakarta.

Shortly afterwards, at approximately 11:30 p.m., witnesses reported seeing a crowd running toward Ayodya Park.

After the suspects fled the scene, residents found a dead body covered with blood on the side of the road, which was later identified to be Ramlan.

This recent case is yet another in a string of incidents between the two mass organizations.

Back in February, an altercation in Gandaria, South Jakarta, began after a PP member attacked a member of the FBR member who was stationed at one of the organization's guard posts. A violent brawl ensued between the two mass organizations and the police confiscated a machete from at the scene.

There were at least seven brawls between the FBR and the PP in 2012 in Jakarta and its satellite cities, including one in Larangan, Tangerang, in which three people were stabbed. Nobody died in the incident. (ogi)
