rans7 coordinator of regional news coverage, Pasaoran Simanjuntak, said the Jambi Police should thoroughly investigate the violence against its video journalist, Antonius Nugroho Kusumawan, who was seriously injured when he was covering the fuel protests in front of the Jambi Legislative Council (DPRD) office, on Monday.
The police should also account for losses in the incident, he added.
"We (Trans7) will cover his medical expenses because the incident occurred when he was on duty. But the Jambi Police should also be responsible,' said Pasaoran at Dr.Bratanata Unang Hospital, Jambi, early on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
The legal process over the incident should also be continued, he added.
Praising the Jambi Police, who quickly assessed and acted on the incident, Pasaoran said a police officer with the rank of First Brig., identified only with initial D, had been taken into custody.
'Currently, the legal process is ongoing,' said Pasaoran.
Anton is receiving medical treatment at the Bratanata Unang Hospital, or popularly known as DKT Hospital, after being transferred from Raden Mattaher General Hospital, Jambi.
Anton was injured on his head by fragments of a police tear gas canister when he was assigned to cover the student demonstrations to protest the fuel price hikes.
Jambi Police chief Satriya Hadi Prasetya said his institution had apologized directly to Anton and his family.
