Street vendors asked to move inside market

D

eputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama asked all street vendors in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, to move inside Block G at Tanah Abang market, which is being renovated.

"All street vendors are asked to move inside the market building to ease daily traffic gridlock around the market. The renovation project is underway and will be completed soon," he said at City Hall on Monday.

Ahok said it was better for street vendors to trade inside the market building and pay taxes to the government. "If they continue trading on streets they could be ticketed for doing so," tribunnews.com quoted him as saying.

The city government is launching raids on street vendors at all traditional markets, shopping malls and centers to prevent them from adding to daily traffic jams in the city.
