National Police chief Gen. Sutarman has appointed Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti the new deputy chief, replacing Comr. Gen. Oegroseno who will retire at the end of the month.
No information is available regarding who will fill Badrodin's position of National Police Security Maintenance Agency chief.
Badrodin, the best graduate from the police academy class of 1982 and a recipient of the prestigious Adhi Makayasa, outshone other three-star police generals like Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, who is Police Educational Institution chief, and Comr. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam, who is General Supervision Inspector.
Badrodin has a history of replacing Oegroseno and has done so on three separate occasions.
Badrodin, then still holding a senior commissioner rank and posted as Banten police chief, was appointed by then National Police chief Gen. Sutanto to replace then Brig. Gen. Oegroseno as Central Sulawesi Police chief in 2005.
Oegroseno was replaced as he refused a direct order to execute three defendants - Fabianus Tibo, Marinus Riwu and Dominggus Da Silva - who were sentenced to death.
Oegroseno reasoned that the investigations behind the death sentences were unfair and therefore he intended to investigate further.
Then Badrodin was appointed to replace Oegroseno as North Sumatra Police chief in 2009.
Badrodin held the North Sumatra Police chief position only for a year as he was then posted as the National Police legal division head in 2010.
He was installed as East Java Police chief a year after.(dic)
