housands of caterpillars have swarmed densely populated residential areas in Tanjung Batu Kota subdistrict, Karimun regency, Riau Islands.

The caterpillars, locally called ulat bulu Gogo, started swarming the areas five days ago, tribunnews.com reported.

The caterpillars entered homes, many of which were located on Jl. Cempaka Kuning in the subdistrict.

Local neighborhood unit head Siswoyo said that residents tried to get rid of the caterpillars by burning them. However, instead of wiping them out, larger groups of caterpillars continued to swarm, he said. (yln)
