he Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has launched an Android-based mobile application that helps users anticipate natural disasters and share disaster-related information.
The app, called Mass Rapid Assessment (MRA), was launched during a seminar on IT-Telekom and people's disaster preparedness and resilience in South Jakarta on Thursday.
The app is aimed at improving people's capacity in anticipating disasters and post-disaster relief, PMI head of disaster relief H. Sumarsono said, opening the seminar.
"The mobile app facilitates people sharing information on disasters occurring in their areas so other users living in other areas can utilize the information for better anticipation," he said.
As a country on the so-called "Ring of Fire", Indonesia was familiar with almost all kinds of disaster, he added.
"Indonesia is like a convenience store of natural disasters. Sharing any information related to disasters is essential and important to improve awareness, alertness and preparedness. Thanks to today's advanced technology, this can now be done using this mobile app. This app is expected to help improve the capacity of individuals and communities," he said.(dic)(+++)
