he country's third-largest carrier, Sriwijaya Air, will add 47,160 extra seats between Dec. 15 and Jan. 5, 2015, to a number of its routes in a bid to meet surging demand from customers during the Christmas and year-end holiday season.
Sriwijaya senior corporate communications manager Agus Soedjono said that the carrier would provide the extra seats to several destinations that were connected to its hub in Jakarta and Makassar, South Sulawesi,
The routes include Jakarta ' Malang (East Java), Jakarta ' Surakarta (Central Java), Jakarta ' Yogyakarta, Jakarta ' Medan (North Sumatra), Makassar (South Sulawesi) ' Manokwari (West Papua), and Makassar ' Surabaya (East Java).
'In the Jakarta ' Malang route, for instance, we are going to fly four times a day instead of the normal three times a day. We want our customers to book their flights early so that their holiday trip runs smoothly this holiday season,' Agus said on Friday.
In addition, he said that NAM Air, the carrier's subsidiary, would add extra flights from Dec. 19 to Jan. 5 2015.
'NAM Air will fly twice daily from Yogyakarta to Pontianak [West Kalimantan] and from Surabaya to Denpasar [Bali],' he said, adding that normally it flew once daily in both routes.
He added that both carriers would add additional seats if there was a significant growth in demand between mid-December and early January next year. (++++)
