he Attorney General Office (AGO) has named comedian Mandra Naih a suspect in a corruption case connected to a broadcasting program on state-owned television channel TVRI.
Junior attorney general for special crimes Widyo Pramono confirmed that Mandra's company, PT Viandra Production, was allegedly involved in inflating the costs of the TV program, worth Rp 40 billion (US$3 million).
The AGO also said Iwan Chermawan (the director of PT Media Art Image) and Yulkasmir (a TVRI executive) were suspects.
The case was first investigated in 2012 after reports that there had been irregular boosts in costs of the program and that Mandra's company, as the program's production house, did not fulfill its obligation according to the contract with the state television company.
Mandra, who rose to fame after a popular TV drama series Si Doel Anak Sekolahan (Doel, The Graduate), was recently questioned about the case.
AGO spokesman Tony Spontana confirmed Mandra's questioning.
'It's true that [Mandra] has been questioned about the TVRI corruption case,' said Tony as quoted by kompas.com. (***)
