he Foreign Ministry says 34 heads of states and heads of governments, as well as representatives from 77 countries have confirmed their attendance at the 60th anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference, set to be held in Jakarta and Bandung from April 19 to April 24.
'The number of confirmed participants has increased. As of April 16, the number of countries confirming the presence of their representatives reached 77. Meanwhile, 34 heads of states, or heads of governments, six of which are deputies, have confirmed their attendance,' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday.
He confirmed the participation of Asian and African countries would likely continue to increase ahead of the Asian-African Conference commemorative summit.
Among the heads of states and governments who are confirmed include Brunei Darussalam, China, Iran, Jordan, Madagascar, Malawi, and Swaziland, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Other leaders confirming their presence are from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Egypt, Gabon, Malaysia, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Singapore, South Africa, Sudan, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
Six countries confirming the presence of deputy heads of states or governments are Algeria, Angola, Liberia, Seychelles, the Philippines and Zambia.
Arrmanatha said representatives of six international organizations, namely the African Union, the Arab League, ASEAN, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations, and the South Center, would also be present.
'So, the number of delegations to attend the Asia Africa Conference reaches around 1,800 while 1,300 media companies have registered to cover the event,' he said.
As many as 480 businesspeople will attend the Asia Africa Business Summit, he added.
'So, there will be around 3,600 foreign visitors for the conference in Jakarta from April 19 to April 23. The number of participants usually grows in the last days,' said Arrmanatha.
The Asia Africa Conference 60th anniversary commemoration (AACC) events will kick off on Sunday, with a meeting between high-level delegates in Jakarta, followed by ministerial meetings on Monday. The Asia-Africa Business Summit is scheduled for April 21 to April 22. (dyl/ebf)(+++)
