akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has scolded his deputy, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, in regard to the 2015 Jakarta Folk Fair held in Bung Karno Sports Complex'€™s east parking area in Senayan, Central Jakarta, which runs from May 31 to June 5.

It was revealed that vendors renting kiosks at the event had been charged at least Rp 2 million (US$151.24) each. However, Ahok said that vendors had not received the promised facilities despite paying high rent. He also accused administration officers and certain individuals of "playing" with the money. Dozens of vendors protested at the venue on Sunday, demanding that the city administration connect their kiosks to electricity.

"[The folk fair] is messy. I've already scolded Pak Djarot. I understand that he wants to help, but he doesn't realize that there are many bad people in Jakarta. Furthermore, Pak Djarot signed the documents for the folk fair, but he didn't have the right to do so. Only the governor has the right to sign such documents," Ahok said with emotion at City Hall on Monday.

Ahok went on to say that he had chosen and inaugurated Djarot, and asked that the latter not overstep his authority and obligations as deputy governor.

"Next year, [Djarot] may not sign such documents. I don't want to hear about another mess like this again," Ahok said.
