ndonesian athlete Rini Budiarti proved that her wins in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in the last two Southeast Asian (SEA) Games sporting events were no fluke after she scored a hattrick during the biennial event in the National Stadium in Singapore on Friday.
Rini prevailed before the home crowd in the 2011 SEA Games in Palembang and later in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.
"Yes, this is my third [victory], but it was tougher [compared to the previous wins] since I tripped here during the race," Rini told reporters after the race. Rini, who was leading the pack since the start, managed to maintain her lead until the finish line.
Rini clocked a time of 10:20.40 ahead of her arch-rivals, Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Phuong who grabbed silver in 10:32.61 followed by Jessica Lunn Barnard of the Philippines who completed in 10:36.90 to win bronze.
"My personal target has not yet been achieved because of the stumble. But at least, I have tried my best," the 32-year-old athlete said as quoted by kompas.com.
Rini has a SEA Games record under her own name of 10:0.58 that she scored in Palembang. Two years ago her time was 10:04.54.(dmr)(+++)
