T

he Jakarta State Administrative Court ordered on Tuesday the Youth and Sports Ministry to revoke a decree on the suspension of the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI).

Presiding judge Ujang Abdullah said that the decree was '€˜invalid'€™.

'€œIn the decree, the sports minister did not state which articles had been violated by the plaintiff [the PSSI]. Besides that, the deadline between the warning and the sanction was too close,'€ Ujang said as quoted by tempo.co.

Previously, the same court had issued a provisional decision ordering Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi to allow the PSSI to continue operating, in a move that was expected to help the organization avoid sanctions from world soccer authority FIFA. However, FIFA still sanctioned the PSSI, banning Indonesia from entering any international competitions.

The conflict between the PSSI and the sports ministry began after the PSSI allowed two local soccer clubs, Arema Malang and Persebaya Surabaya, to compete in the Indonesian Soccer League last April, even though the teams failed to meet requirements set by the ministry'€™s Indonesian Professional Sports Body (BOPI). Therefore, the sports ministry decided to freeze the PSSI'€™s operations for ignoring BOPI'€™s decision.

Following the suspension, the PSSI filed a lawsuit against the minister'€™s decision at the Jakarta State Administrative Court on April 22. (ika)(++++)
