he city administration will provide 1,200 tents for street vendors at the Car Free Day event that is held every Sunday morning.
The city's Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency head, Irwadi, said that the tents could be used starting next Sunday. He said the 1,200 tents were just part of the first phase.
'In total, there are around 1,400 street vendors at every Car Free Day event. For the first phase, we only provide 1,200 tents,' he said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com. He did not elaborate further about when the remaining 200 tents would be distributed.
'We will give each vendor a tent the size of two-by-two meters so they will no longer sell on the road,' he added.
Vendors who will receive the tents are those who normally sell around Jl. Kebon Kacang (next to Plaza Indonesia), around Dukuh Atas, near Sarinah, Jl. Sunda and Gate 1 of Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, all in Central Jakarta.
Irwadi said the tents would be installed not far from the location these vendors normally sell their goods.
'Each vendor will be given an ID card from Bank DKI and each of them will need to pay Rp 3,000 (22 US cents) a day as a contribution,' he said.
