AKARTA: Film director Natasha Dematra was honored at the American Movie Awards (AMA) as the Best Newcomer Director for her 2015 film Tears of Ghost.
The 18-year-old daughter of film director and novelist Damien Dematra was the first Asian woman to receive the honor since the annual awards began in 1980, according to a release made available by Damien Dematra Production.
The announcement was made on Thursday, Antara news agency reported.
“I hope the award can inspire all women to never stop creating something,” said Natasha, who started working on the film when she was 15.
The film has been shown at various international film festivals. But it has not been released in Indonesian theaters.
The film tells the story of a young architect handling a project to renovate a house that holds some dark secrets.
Natasha was also the producer and a cast member of the film, which received Best Leading Actor, Best Editor and Best Director awards at the International Independent Film Awards.
